A vitamin infusion brings Max Purcell a long lock. The Australian Grand Slam champion in doubles accepts its punishment. Prize money is revoked.

Due to a doping offense, tennis professional Max Purcell is excluded from all tournaments for a long time. The Australian accepted a lock that applies until mid -2026. This was announced by the responsible International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).

According to this, the 27-year-old may not take part in tournaments or visit them until June 11, 2026. Purcell had already admitted in December 2024 that he had exceeded the permitted limit in a vitamin infusion. As a result, he was temporarily suspended.

Overall, a lock of 18 months was imposed against Purcell. This was originally reduced from 24 months because the incumbent double winner of the US Open cooperated during the examination. The time of his voluntary preliminary lock from December 12, 2024 will be taken into account.

Specifically, it is about infusions that Purcell had received between 16 and December 20, 2023. According to anti-doping rules, the permissible limit is 100 milliliters within 12 hours. Purcell received infusions of more than 500 milliliters.

In addition, the Australian is denied all tournament results won between December 16, 2023 and its first negative doping test on February 3, 2024, and prize money achieved.

Purcell also competes in singles, but celebrated its greatest success in doubles. In addition to the title mentioned at the US Open, he also won in Wimbledon in 2022, then on the side of his compatriot Matthew Ebden. Purcell celebrated a total of eight tournament victories. In singles he can show five triumphs on the second-class Challenger tour.
