URW: Hamburger Überseequartier on the home stretch

The Westfield Hamburger Überseequartier construction project is entering its final spurt.

The opening date for the shopping center in Hamburg’s HafenCity, which is around 90 percent rented, has been set, the real estate company Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) announced on Tuesday. The site, which will combine living, work and leisure, will open on April 25th.

URW has been regularly announcing potential tenants since 2022, most recently in October twelve other companies, which will open retail space in the mall. Shortly afterwards, however, an accident overshadowed the project, where workers died during a… Scaffolding collapse were killed. The Salvage work delayed construction progress.

With an occupancy rate of around 90 percent, the district is now on the home stretch. Brands such as the French fashion label Karl Lagerfeld, the cosmetics chain Sephora, which belongs to the luxury goods group Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), or the German fashion brand Karo Kauer will be found on the storefront. Tenants for the catering area ‘The Kitchen’ are also on board to create a typical food hall atmosphere with street food providers.

“We are now on the home stretch of realizing the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier and have been handing over space to our rental partners for weeks,” said URW Managing Director Andreas Hohlmann. “The expansion of space is progressing quickly everywhere in the district. In the last few weeks we have brought a further 25 brands on board and with the current occupancy rate of around 90 percent, only a few spaces are still available.”

In total, around 580 apartments, offices with 4,000 jobs, three hotels and a cruise terminal will be built on an area of 419,000 square meters.
