Urs Fischer talks about the Bonucci case

Coach Urs Fischer from 1. FC Union Berlin reacted with surprise to media reports that Leonardo Bonucci wanted to talk to him after he returned to reserve role.

“I can say that I spoke to Leo this week. That’s why it surprises me a bit,” said Fischer after the 0-1 defeat in the Champions League against Napoli. During the game, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Bonucci now wanted to talk to the Swiss about his situation.

As was the case recently in the Bundesliga, Bonucci did not receive any minutes against Naples. “Of course he is dissatisfied. I hope that all my players really want to play,” said Fischer, who again brought in Robin Knoche for Bonucci. “I don’t think the decision was that wrong today,” Fischer continued.

Bonucci was one of Berlin’s star newcomers in the summer alongside national player Robin Gosens. In the absence of the injured defense chief Knoche, the 2021 Italian European champion was in Union’s defense. However, the 36-year-old veteran hasn’t been of any real help so far.

Since Knoche’s return, Bonucci hasn’t been on the field for a minute. The Italian came from Juventus on a free transfer and signed a one-year contract in Köpenick.
