Uproar at Bayern game – Union coach slaps Leroy Sané

Shortly before the end of the record champions’ game against Berlin, there was turmoil on the sidelines. The focus: Leroy Sané and the coach of the “Iron”. The scene has consequences.

Escalation shortly before the end of the game: In the final phase of FC Bayern’s game against Union Berlin, Union coach Nenad Bjelica attacked Bayern star Leroy Sané. The coach slapped the national player on the sideline and was shown a red card.

The 74th minute in the Allianz Arena: The ball rolls out of bounds on the sideline near the Union bench and Bjelica takes the game equipment in her hand. Sané comes along and wants to throw in quickly, grabs the ball in Bjelica’s hands and demands release. But the Croatian reacts irritably, confronts the Bayern striker – and then completely loses self-control. The 52-year-old was tempted to swipe at Sané twice, which could easily be interpreted as a slap in the face. Referee Frank Willenborg immediately pulls out the red card.

Emotions continue to run high on the sidelines, but quickly cool down again. Bjelica has to go to the stands, and on the way up she is apparently shouted at by fans, continues to argue, and at times even has to be held back by a steward.

Curious: Sané, visibly irritated by the brazen violence, is also punished by Willenborg and receives a yellow card for his lack of control.

Emotions also ran high on the pitch at times. In one scene, Bayern star Harry Kane and Union’s Kevin Vogt clashed. After the final whistle, however, tempers seemed to have cooled down again.

After the game, both Bjelica and Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel commented on the scene. You can read their reactions here.
