Unique: VOC handball player Loïs van Vliet is the only one from the Premier League called up for the World Cup

A nice boost for Loïs van Vliet. The 18-year-old handball player from VOC from Amsterdam-Noord has been added to the World Cup selection by national coach Per Johansson. She is the only player on the team who is currently active in the Netherlands.

Van Vliet plays for national champion VOC and trains during the week at the Handball Academy in Papendal. National coach Per Johansson is satisfied with her development: “Loïs has had a good training week with the Dutch team. Good performances should be rewarded and it feels good to give a young player the opportunity at this time. Loïs is part of our LA 2028 development group and has already shown good commitment and character.”

The World Cup selection of the handball players has changed in one position this week. Last weekend, circle player Merel Freriks (Hoofddorp) seriously injured her knee. Yvette Broch has been called in as her replacement. She reports to the team on Tuesday.

The text continues below the interview with Tess Lieder.

Johansson’s team starts the world championship on Thursday, November 30. Argentina is the first opponent at 6 p.m. The Netherlands is placed in group H with the Czech Republic, Argentina and Congo. The Dutch team plays all group matches in Fredrikshavn, Denmark.
