Unique: Queen Máxima photographed without make-up on arrival in Tanzania | show

Queen Máxima without make-up: we don’t see that often. Still, the queen allowed herself to be captured without mascara and lipstick when she arrived in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania last night. She is visiting in her role as the UN Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.

Laughing, the queen was welcomed as she stepped out of a KLM plane in a dark suit from the French fashion house Chloé. According to fashion journalist Josine Droogendijk, Máxima likes to wear the set when she is on a journey for the UN. Dryendijk also noticed that the queen (with glasses) was still wearing her compression stockings, which she normally takes off before getting out. Compression stockings prevent swollen feet and ankles and can prevent ‘traveler’s thrombosis’.

The queen, who was treated to a traditional dance at the airport, is in Tanzania until Wednesday. There she will speak with government representatives and various organizations about what it takes to connect more disadvantaged people to financial services, and to participate in an inclusive digital economy.

The Queen has spent most of the past week abroad. She was first together with King Willem-Alexander for a three-day state visit to Sweden, and afterwards traveled to the American capital Washington for the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
