The wing defender scored both of Telstar’s goals in the 2-2 draw against NEC. Hardeveld’s first goal, a striking header, was one from the book. Telstar played well under the high pressure from the Nijmegen team, after which Tyrese Noslin gave a measured cross to Hardeveld. “Tight against the ropes. It was a wonderful ball, which I only had to run into.”

The second goal was perhaps even better. Hardeveld struggled to control the ball, which then bounced up a bit. “I won’t soon forget the second one. It went straight into the air, so I thought: I’ll just shoot.”

At the end of the match there were two more disallowed goals. Both Telstar and NEC could have won the entertaining match in extremis. “It was madness at the end. Maybe we should just cherish a point now. The three points will certainly come,” Hardeveld says with certainty.
