Underage driver prosecuted for causing fatal accident in Ekehaar

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) will prosecute an underage boy from Assen for causing a fatal traffic accident near Ekehaar. He is also charged with driving without a license.

In the accident between Ekehaar and Anreep last August, a girl from Assen died when the car she was in crashed into a tree. Four other occupants of the car were injured, two of them seriously.

Soon after the accident it became clear that none of the five minor passengers had a driver’s license. Because the suspect is a minor, the Public Prosecution Service will not release any further details about the case.

The fatal victim was a student from the Quintus location of the Dr. Nassau College in Assen. Three of the injured also attend school there. Immediately after the accident, the school held a memorial for the deceased student.

The trial is on April 19 and will be heard behind closed doors.
