Terence Crawford just won one of his most important fights. Now the boxing world champion announces his retirement.
Undefeated boxing world champion Terence Crawford has surprisingly announced his retirement. The 38-year-old American is retiring from competitive racing just three months after his significant victory over Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, ending his career as reigning world champion.
Crawford, who has 42 career victories including 31 knockouts, announced his retirement in a video on social media. “I’m retiring from competitive sports – not because I’m done fighting, but because I’ve won a different kind of fight,” he said: “The fight where you go out on your own terms.”
The American ends his career as the reigning world champion of the WBA, IBF and WBO associations. In total he won 18 world titles in five different weight classes. His triumph over Alvarez was the highlight of his career. Crawford remained undefeated in all 42 professional fights and was never officially knocked down. All of his victories came by unanimous decision or submission, and no referee ever scored in favor of an opponent.
