Ultrarunner Karel Sabbe started the last round in Barkley Marathons

Meanwhile, one after the other participant drops out due to fatigue. Sabbe continues well and still has a chance to complete the five laps of 32 kilometers each within 60 hours. With 13 hours to go before the last loop, the Anzegem driver is well on track to become the sixteenth finisher ever.

Four men left

Between the penultimate and last round, Sabbe barely took a twenty-minute break. He wants to lose as little time as possible and on Thursday morning around eight o’clock local time he immediately started his fifth loop. The American John Kelly and the Frenchman Aurelien Sanchez are also in their last round. Both runners have more than 45 minutes ahead of the Anzegemnaar.

Less than an hour later, Briton Damian Hall also started his fifth round. The British Jasmin Paris could not finish her fourth round in time and was forced to leave the competition. It remains the best female performance in ultrarun history.
