Ulm starts successfully in EuroCup

The basketball players from ratiopharm Ulm started the new EuroCup season with a home win.

The German champion won 80:70 (42:38) against Dolomiti Energia Trento. Trevion Williams dominated the baskets with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

The Ulm team got off to a furious start with an 8-0 lead, but then missed seven throws from the field in a row. In the second quarter, the hosts often scored points through quick attacks after winning the ball, and Georginho led Ulm to a 42:38 halftime lead on his debut.

Dakota Mathias plays well

After the break, coach Anton Gavel’s team kept pulling away, and an eight-point lead at the end of the third quarter was the biggest of the game to date.

In the final section, the Ulm team maintained their lead. Dakota Mathias, who played strongly in the second half, took the decisive 77:66 lead with his third three-pointer two minutes before the end. In total, Mathias scored 18 points.

The Ulm team is a permanent guest in the EuroCup, the Swabians are taking part in the competition for the ninth year in a row. Last season the Gavel team made it to the quarter-finals. On Wednesday, the second German team, the Veolia Towers Hamburg, will take part in the competition.
