UGent saves 22 million, but management receives “extra compensation” of a total of 470,000 euros gross per year

Ghent University is tightening its belt considerably, but not for everyone. Ghent University must save more than 22 million euros. For example, there are cuts in administration and childcare. Not included in the package: 470,000 euros in gross management fees for management, including 5,300 euros gross monthly for rector Rik Van de Walle – on top of his salary, the union says. How is that possible? And how does the rector himself justify this?
