Ufc 275, Prochazka champion: Texeira beaten. Ok Shevchenko too

The Czech fighter subdues the Brazilian at the end of an epic match and wins the belt. Moscow women: Valentina Shevchenko, seventh defense completed. But what an effort …

A beautiful match, many reversals in front of him, and in the end a new champion: in Singapore Jiri Prochazka wins the Ufc Lightweight belt, snatching it from Glover Teixeira. He does it with a rear-naked choke, a neck grab, on the fifth round, when there are just under 30 seconds left in a match that would have been difficult to score. Prochazka, fast and creative in his striking, hit the Brazilian very hard, who on the other hand when he managed to shorten the distance found heavy blows and above all excellent takedowns. By the fourth round the reigning champion had almost closed his opponent in a seemingly hopeless neck hold, but Prochazka was very quick to get out of it. And on the expiration he overturned another situation of struggle managing to close the decisive hold.

Women

An important evening also for female MMAs. In the previous meeting, Valentina Shevchenko kept her flyweight champion belt not without problems: a not unanimous decision saw her prevail over the Brazilian Tania Santos, for “Bullet” she is the seventh defense of the belt but certainly the most problematic . Shortly before her, after losing by knockout to Chinese Zhang Weili, Polish veteran Joanna Jedrzejczyk at 34 announced her retirement.

The sample

Meanwhile, Prochazka puts the flag of the Czech Republic in the Ufc world: “It is a pride to represent and raise my country so high, we are small and with great potential but not everyone lives to develop it”. A beautiful character, Prcochazka: born in Brno 29 years ago, portentous physique (1.92 by 93 kilos), a past in BMX, in field hockey and as a defender in football – two years ago he also made his debut in the eighth series … -, he discovered combat sports as a teenager and never gave up on them. He is a sort of contemporary samurai faithful to the principles of Bushido, he trains in the woods and even the cult-like hair (head shaved on the sides and back and braid that starts from the top) seems to be taken on an equal footing from Kurosawa’s films. His record speaks of 29 wins and three defeats, the last of these in 2015 in the Japanese promotion Rizin, where he spent most of his career: this is his third match in Ufc, they gave him the title shot after knocking out two tough guys like Oezdemir and Reyes and he took advantage of it. His style of knees, kicks, Muay Thai strikes and unconventional striking is highly spectacular. The next big thing? Maybe. He certainly knew how to take the Light Heavyweight with credit.
