UEFA announces rating for abandoned game

The European Championship qualifier between Belgium and Sweden, which was canceled after the fatal attack on two Swedish fans in Brussels, will be classified as a draw.

“Each team will be credited with one point,” the European Football Union UEFA said following a decision by the Executive Committee. The game on October 16th was stopped at half-time when the score was 1-1, at the request and with the consent of both teams.

Previously, two Swedish fans were killed by gunfire in Brussels and another person was injured. The Belgian government classified the attack as an act of terrorism. The suspected perpetrator, a 45-year-old Tunisian, was shot dead by Belgian police on Tuesday after a long escape.

The decision has no impact on the outcome of the qualification. Belgium and Austria have qualified for the 2024 tournament in Germany, while Sweden is in third place in Group F.
