“You want me”
Does this DFB talent no longer play for Germany in the future?

Nelson Weip is currently fighting for the European Championship title with the German U21 national team in Slovakia. In the future, the striker could appear for another country – concrete interest has already been stated.
Real center forwards are RARE at the German Football Association. In the U21, however, coach Antonio di Salvo has with Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, Hanover Nicolò Tresoldi (switched to FC Bruges for the new season) and the Mainz Nelson Weiper. You should shoot the DFB selection against France on Wednesday evening (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online). However, one could change the association, because Weiper has an inquiry from Albania.
“You have registered and want me to be a national team. That makes you proud if a country’s A team wants one,” Weip told the “kicker” last week. The Mainz native is the son of a German father and an Albanian mother, which would make the association change possible.
For now, despite the request, this is not an issue for the 20-year-old: “I want to show myself in the German U21 and play for Germany as long as possible.” The basic opportunity to play for Albania at some point is open: “If at some point it no longer works for Germany, I see it as a very good option.”
For the time being, Weiper’s future should be with the DFB. Especially since his chances of more playing time after the European Championship should increase significantly. The 23-year-old Woltemade will leave the team for reasons of age and thus clears a place in the starting eleven.
And Weiper could also take the next step in the club. With Jonathan Burkardt, the top scorer in the previous season could leave the Mainz and move Weiper on the internal striker list. Last year the 20-year-old came to 23 Bundesliga missions, most of them after substitutions. He scored two goals.
