A 44-year-old French man has been sentenced to two years in prison for the robbery of a man in his home in the Pittelo residential area in Assen. Nine months of this is conditional. According to the judge, the man in his forties brutally abused the hospitality of the Assen resident.
The 44-year-old visited the Assen resident on June 3 of this year. He was on drugs and out of nowhere he attacked his host to take his phone. The Frenchman hit and punched the resident. He was helped by a man who called himself Patrick and was with him. This Patrick held the victim. The men fled with a phone, money, the car keys and the victim’s car.
Doorbell camera footage showed a third person walking in during this incident. The door was open. The third man was a 37-year-old man from Assen, who took away a safe containing money, gold and silver. According to the judge, it was a premeditated plan. The Frenchman and a friend had deliberately opened the door for the Assen resident during their visit. The resident was distracted, so that the Assen resident could steal the safe unnoticed.
The judge did not blame the Assen resident for the fact that the men used violence. This would have been used without his knowledge. The man from Assen was sentenced to nine months in prison for the theft of the safe. He must also serve previously imposed suspended prison sentences of up to four months in prison. The sentences correspond to the requirements of the Public Prosecution Service (OM). The Public Prosecution Service has yet to make a decision on whether or not to prosecute the third accomplice, who called himself Patrick.
The victim can expect damages of more than 3,700 euros.
