Two women rode as stowaways on a freight train from Bremen to just before Munich.

As the federal police in the Bavarian state capital announced on Thursday, they were noticed on Wednesday afternoon in the municipality of Karlsfeld on the outskirts of Munich and taken out of the tub of a goods wagon, in which they said they had stayed for more than twelve hours.

According to the federal police, the two women were now completely covered in dirt and brake dust. They were a 27-year-old Spanish woman and a 32-year-old US citizen. They stated that on Tuesday evening in Bremen, around 650 kilometers away, they had secretly boarded the wagon of the freight train. They wanted to travel to Munich.

Sina Dietsch, spokeswoman for the Munich Federal Police: “The two women belong to the homeless scene. You wanted to travel to Munich cheaply.”

According to the federal police, the stowaways are now being investigated for fraudulently obtaining services, but they remained at large. The officials warned against a ride on freight trains. There is danger to life.

Accordingly, the federal police were alerted after railway employees had noticed the women in the Karlsfeld area. A patrol drove there and discovered them in the last car of the train that had stopped. Because of the operation, the railway line had to be closed for around an hour.
