For the 20th time, Heidi Klum is looking for ‘Germany’s Next Top Model’ on television – now the anniversary relay is coming to an end. With a prominent support, Klum selects in the ‘GNTM’ live finals on Thursday (8:15 p.m., ProSieben/Joyn) from six models winner and winner.

Winner and winner? Yes! The fact that at the end of the season two models with the title can decorate themselves. After men were able to participate in the show for the first time last year, a female and a male ‘top model’ will be chosen again this time.

In the women, Daniela (20) from Stuttgart, Zoe (19) from Cologne and the Viennese Magdalena (21) are fighting for victory. In the men’s final, Moritz (19) from Berlin, Jannik (22) from Bad Segeberg in Schleswig -Holstein – and with Pierre (22) there is still a second model from Vienna.

‘Good energy’ for the final tasks

In the final show, which traditionally increases in Cologne, the last tasks await the candidates. The catwalks and photo shoots are usually linked with special challenges. So last year it was time to cut a good figure in a sporty shoot: the models had to ward off footballs in a goal that was shot by ex-international Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The selected ones for the final feel prepared for the requirements. “I’m trying to listen to what my body is doing,” said Jannik in a media discussion a few days before the show. He was a lot outside, pay attention to his diet and to enough calm. Zoe reported a “good energy” between the three finalists.

And even if the victory shouldn’t work: You would have already learned a lot by participating in the show, the six candidates assured. They had become mature, more confident, have mastered challenges.

Bodyshaming, nasty handling – criticism of Klum and ‘GNTM’

In recent years there has always been criticism of ‘GNTM’ casting. The show was accused of contributing to Bodyshaming culture. Klum was criticized for her tough tone with the sometimes minor models. And the hardships of the show were not worth it for the candidates, it was often said: Klum cast rather personnel for reality shows than real top models.

In fact, quite a few candidates later found themselves in formats such as the RTL ‘jungle camp’ or ‘Celebrity Big Brother’. Names like Sarah Knappik, Gina-Lisa Lohfink, Micaela Schäfer and Fiona Erdmann became brands in the German reality business.

Some participants also achieved a career in the fashion industry after the show. The first winner Lena Gercke became a well -known advertising face and has her own fashion brand. Sara Nuru and Luisa Hartema ran on the big fashion Weeks. Others, such as Stefanie Giesinger and Betty Taube, are successful as influencers.

Anyone who wins comes on the cover of the ‘Harper’s Bazaar’

In recent years, Klum has tried to make her casting more diverse. Smaller, more curvy or older women were allowed to participate – and now also men. This year the broadcast time was extended to another television evening. In the first six weeks of the season, men were shown on Wednesdays and women on Thursdays. Only from episode 13 did the show only continue on Thursdays.

The two winners will also receive a cover picture on the fashion magazine ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ and a prize money of 100,000 euros this year. They also become part of a L’Oréal Paris campaign.
