Strong emotions in the West Bank after two Palestinian women are shot dead. That happened in two separate incidents today. One of the women allegedly behaved suspiciously, but turned out to be unarmed. The other, a mother of six, allegedly assaulted a soldier.
This is reported by the responsible parties, the Israeli army and the police in Hebron. The first incident was near Bethlehem, where a woman was acting suspiciously, according to the army. She continued to approach some soldiers, even when they told her to stop and fired warning shots. The soldiers then opened fire and hit the woman, who later turned out to be unarmed, in the lower body.
She died on the way to the hospital. Bethlehem is a Palestinian city in the West Bank, south of Jerusalem.
Second incident
The second incident was near the Ibahimi Mosque in Hebron, a holy site for both Jews and Muslims. A woman stabbed a police officer with a knife, after which other officers shot her dead, police said. The stabbed officer suffered minor injuries. Hebron is a Palestinian city in the south of the West Bank.
The situation in Israel is tense after four attacks killed 14 people in two weeks. For example, a Palestinian from a refugee camp in the West Bank shot three more people in Tel Aviv on Thursday.
Israel fears further acts of violence during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which began in early April.
