Not one, but two explosions took place on the Jan Luijkenstraat in Oosterhout during the night from Friday to Saturday. The neighbors of the 90-year-old victim say that a bang was also heard at nine o’clock in the evening. “My husband then put out the fire together with the other neighbor,” says the shocked neighbor.

A boarded up door reveals that things went very wrong last night. The second bang around four o’clock in the morning was especially huge. “We were sitting up in bed,” says the neighbor. “Within no time the police and fire brigade were in the street.”

“Where do they get the courage?”

The entire neighborhood was woken up by the bang, but this did not apply to the 90-year-old resident of the house that was struck. “Unfortunately, the man did not notice it himself, because he is also very old. They really had to wake him up,” the shocked neighbor continues her story.

According to a woman who lives down the street, the man was taken to the hospital. “He inhaled too much smoke,” she says. She is also very scared. “Where do they get the courage?”, she wonders out loud. “They should just leave him alone.”

“We are even thinking about putting up cameras.”

She says that there have never been any problems with the 90-year-old local resident. “He is still as fit as a lapwing and regularly brings a newspaper to the neighbor. He is always friendly and politely says hello.”

Both women are very scared. The neighbors have no idea why it happened at their neighbor’s house. “You start thinking: who is next? You don’t know whether it is a target or mischief that got out of hand. We are even thinking about putting up cameras.”

Local residents at the end of the street have a video doorbell, but according to the neighbors there is nothing on it. “The perpetrators came and went from the other side. So he doesn’t have them in the picture.”

According to one of the neighbors, the man was taken to the hospital.
