Two children injured in Lisserbroek fireworks explosion

Just as the fireworks can be put away for another year, something goes wrong in Lisserbroek this afternoon. During an explosion in a home, heavy firecrackers go off. The emergency services responded en masse. Two children were taken to hospital.

The explosion on Azollastraat took place around 3 p.m. Local residents believed that heavy fireworks were going off in the house. A police spokesperson cannot say with certainty what type it was, but it is certain that it was fireworks.

Two children were involved in the explosion, the spokesperson said. “Whether they lit the fireworks themselves or whether they went off accidentally cannot be said at this time. They were both injured and taken to hospital.”

Trauma helicopter

The police are not commenting on their current condition, but they are not in life-threatening condition. In addition to the police and fire brigade, two ambulances and an air ambulance responded to the report.

No major damage was caused by the explosion to the home itself.
