Turbulent duel does not earn Telstar any points

An insane match, that is how the duel between Telstar and SC Cambuur can be described. Two strikes, a red card and five goals. The moment the clouds of smoke cleared over Velsen-Zuid, the score was 2-3.

There was already a lot to do about this match in advance. Like this this duel was labeled as a risk match. That had to do with the fact that supporters of Cambuur would have bought tickets for the home sections. That is why the municipality decided to make this decision. Zakaria Eddahchouri had the first chance and shot full at Yanick van Osch, but the keeper was alert.

However, the Frisians took the lead. Milan Smit converted a penalty after a foul by Sebbe Augustijns. The match was then temporarily halted after a cup was thrown onto the field. After a fifteen minute break, it was Smit who doubled the lead again from the penalty spot: 2-0. Just before the break, Telstar got away well, after Jorginho Soares tapped the ball away from the line.

The substitute Quinten van den Heerik quickly brought back the tension by making it 2-1 after the break. Telstar got the chance to equalize via Eddahchouri, but that was not spent on him. To make matters worse, Cambuur made it 3-1 after a beautiful free kick from Michael Breij. The game was then stopped again after cups of beer on the field. The perpetrators were caught and the game could continue, which is a new rule of the KNVB.

After the interruption, Eddahchouri made it 3-2, but Telstar didn’t get any further. This was partly due to a red card for Jayden Turfkruier fifteen minutes before the end. Due to the defeat, the White Lions remain without points after two matches. Jong AZ is the next opponent on Monday, August 28.

Setup Telstar: Koeman; Seedorf (Tahiri/46), Apau, Soares, Oude Kotte, Faye (Kaandorp/46); Overtoom, Turfkruier, Augustijns (Van de Loo/83); Eddahchouri, El Kachati (Van den Heerik/46)
