Skov ‘only said positive things’
TSG Hoffenheim’s newcomer Kasper Dolberg (25) is actually a handball player at heart. “I’m Danish, so of course I like handball a lot. That’s what I grew up with,” said the World Cup striker during a video call on Wednesday at the Kraichgauer training camp in Albufeira. “Both my parents played handball and I did too. So it’s probably my favorite sport to watch.”
TSG loaned the 25-year-old, who is training with his new team in Portugal for the first time, from OGC Nice until the end of the season. Most recently he played for FC Sevilla. Above all, Hoffenheim are hoping for an additional type of player on the offensive from Dolberg. “Kasper is a center forward who is characterized by his intelligent way of playing as well as his excellent ball handling, his dynamism and a certain physicality,” said sports director Alexander Rosen after the signing.

When asked if he could imagine a long-term commitment in Hoffenheim, Dolberg said: “I’m here for six months, then we’ll see what happens. Of course I want to find a place where I can grow and score goals and perform as I believe I can.” In Nice, where he scored 24 goals in 85 games, the Dane is under contract until 2024.

Dolberg was already in contact with TSG in 2019, but then switched from Ajax Amsterdam to the OGC for just over 20 million euros. He is the third Dane in the Hoffenheim squad alongside the currently injured Jacob Bruun Larsen (24) and Robert Skov (26). Dolberg once played with Skov in youth at Silkeborg IF. “I wouldn’t say that he was the main reason for my move, but when I heard about Hoffenheim’s interest, of course I spoke to him and he only told me positive things about the club,” said the attacker, who is even more Wants to learn German: “I had German at school and I speak Dutch, which helps a bit.”
