The “legendary Moka” of the US management shows that instant messaging applications should not be used to discuss state secrets.
- Technical encryption is not enough if you add the wrong person to the discussion group, says Petteri Järvinen, a security expert.
- An advanced spy program can also water security.
- The weakest loop is not encryption, but a person using the application.
Signalia is considered the safest of the instant messaging applications, ”says Petteri Järvinen, security expert at Iltalehti.
– Its encryption should be head -to -head, and when it does not have a commercial motive like the WhatsApp owner on meta, it is generally considered that Signal is the most secure technical sense.
The encryption did not prevent the US foreign policy leadership from incorporating outside people into a group where war secrets were divided.
In this article, you can see how easy it is to add people to the message group in Signal.
What is the most significant difference between WhatsApp and Signal?
– In principle, they are both similar. Both have end -to -end encryption so that the server through which the messages circulate cannot be seen, Järvinen replies.
WhatsApp Meta can see who is using the program or what kind of contact networks users have, even if the content of the messages is not visible.
Signalia is more unknown to the general public because the application is perceived as more secure than WhatsApp.

Encryption is not enough
Technical encryption does not make the use of messaging applications security.
– The risk is to just stare at the encryption and imagine that if it is encrypted, it is safe, says Järvinen.
– Encryption is not the weakest loop at all, but they are such everyday things, such as using a phone in a public place and someone can describe what they read on the screen.
Advanced spy programs pass the technical encryption of instant messaging programs. Encryption loses its significance because the spy show directly sees what is happening on the phone, that is, when the encryption is already dismantled.
If the phone has a spy program, the security will be watered, regardless of encrypting the message application.
The wrong people
Technical security is not enough even if the wrong people are associated with discussions.
“The encryption does not protect that the wrong people will easily be added there,” says Järvinen.
When creating a Signal group, you can add people from their own contact list by name or number. You can invite people to the group already created by sharing a link.
People’s phone numbers can move to new people, or you can save the wrong number on the wrong number in your phone book. Or the numbers can be right, but you can choose the wrong person from the menu.

Legendary mocha
According to Järvinen, instant messaging programs should by no means be used to discuss state secrets.
Michael Waltz, a US President Donald Trump’s Security Policy Advisor, added Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of the Atlantic magazine, to the Yemen Magazine, in Signal, in Signal.
Waltz has forbidden that it has added to the Goldberg group. It has not been disputed that Goldberg has really been in the war group of the US foreign policy leadership.
Järvinen points out that it is not even known whether there have been other wrong people in the US management group or groups.
-A healthy reminder to Finnish companies also check the contacts in their own Signal groups, says Järvinen.

How big was this?
– On a scale from one to ten, this is fifteen, Järvinen says with a laugh.
– This exceeds all scales. This is absolutely legendary, I don’t know if there was a similar in history, it does not come to mind.
Even more embarrassing has been the explanation and accusation of the United States leadership afterwards.
– There are so many stinging in a row that you can’t even count them, says Järvinen.
In Finland, the sharing of security classified information in Signal “would not be heard,” says Jukka Kopra, Chairman of the Defense Committee at HS.
