Trijntje and Tjeerd Oosterhuis: ‘Despite sadness, heart is filled with love’ | show

Trijntje and Tjeerd Oosterhuis are grateful for the inspiration and love they received from their father, Huub Oosterhuis. They state this in a brief response to his death. “Despite the great sadness, our hearts are filled with love and gratitude for all the beautiful moments that we have received from our inspiring and loving father,” say Trijntje and Tjeerd.

Hub Oosterhuis died Sunday at the age of 89 after a short illness, his family reports Monday. He was a great innovator of the ancient biblical faith tradition, which he brought to life in hundreds of songs and other texts. His songs are sung weekly in many churches in the Netherlands and Flanders, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In addition, Oosterhuis initiated various cultural centers in Amsterdam: the Poplar – from which the Balie later emerged, the Rode Hoed and De Nieuwe Liefde. In 1998 he received the Silver Medal of the City of Amsterdam, in 2002 an Honorary Doctorate from the VU, and in 2014 the prestigious German Predigtpreis.
