VLADIMIR (dpa-AFX) – Because he publicly criticized Russia’s war against Ukraine, Kremlin opponent Alexei Gorinov was sentenced to seven years in a prison camp in July 2022. Now the USA is imposing sanctions against the judge who was responsible for the verdict. The US State Department described the 44-year-old’s actions as “arbitrary” in a statement. Their goal was to “suppress dissenting opinions about Russia’s war against Ukraine.” Gorinow was physically abused in custody and was also denied medical care.

Gorinov has been in prison for two and a half years for allegedly discrediting the Russian army and is considered to be in poor health. The then deputy of a Moscow district assembly was one of the first people in Russia to be sentenced to prison without parole for allegedly discrediting the Russian army. At a meeting he called for a minute’s silence “for the victims of the current military aggression in Ukraine.”

In November, a Russian military court sentenced Gorinov again. Overall, the prison sentence was extended by one year to eight years. In addition, the 63-year-old was ordered to be transferred to a prison camp with strict prison conditions./trö/DP/he
