BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The water went out in large parts of Berlin on New Year’s Eve. The reason is pipe damage on Seestrasse in the Wedding district, as Berliner Wasserbetriebe announced on X. The fire department spoke of a “massive water pipe burst.”
There is no tap water in houses in Kreuzberg, Schöneberg and Charlottenburg, dpa reporters reported. The water is also said to have failed in some areas in Wedding and Moabit. It was unclear how many households in the capital were affected. There are also many tourists in the city because of the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The water company and the fire department are on site. The water company wrote on X that the flow of water from the defective pipe would first be stopped. They assumed that the water pressure would then slowly build up again.
The fire department asked not to make any emergency calls because of this./aky/DP/he
