Transfer joker Stijn Spierings still changes clubs thanks to a special rule

Even though the transfer market has been closed for almost two weeks, Stijn Spierings has made a transfer. The Alkmaarder has deployed a so-called ‘transfer joker’ in France. This means that he can still change clubs and therefore transfer to his old club.

Although the transfer market is closed, a unique rule applies in France. In the French league, clubs are allowed to sign one player from another French club during the season. In other words: using the so-called transfer joker. Toulouse has now done that and that means Spierings can change clubs.

Great welcome

By using the joker, Spierings can leave his club RC Lens after three months. The midfielder returns to Toulouse, the club from which he left this summer.

Spierings received a grand welcome from supporters at Toulouse airport last night. He was given a scarf by fans who were waiting for him. The North Hollander is no stranger to fans, as he played almost 100 games at Toulouse in three seasons.

Last summer Spierings decided to leave for RC Lens. The club from northern France qualified for the Champions League, but it turned out to be an unfortunate move for the player.

Uncertainty

Spierings only played four matches and played few minutes. It is still unclear whether the former AZ and RKC Waalwijk player will be bought or rented.
