Inter Milan quickly found a successor after the departure of the previous trainer Simone Inzaghi towards Saudi Arabia. The Champions League finalist presented the Romanian Cristian Chivu as a new trainer on Monday, with whom one had said to have been informed of a collaboration a few days ago.
Chivu was active as a player at Inter and also worked as a youth coach for the current current Italian ex-master. Since spring he had recently managed to preserve series A competitor Parma Calcio from relegation.
At Inter, the 44-year-old receives a contract until 2027, as the Milanese confirmed. The club had recently tried intensively for CESC Fàbregas. Bundesliga clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig were also interested in the Spaniard. However, the 38-year-old wants to stay at Como in 1907 and, reportedly, would not have received any approval from his club.
Chivu had played in the defense between 2007 and 2014 at Inter. In 2010 he won the Champions League with the team. Since 2018 he has worked as a coach in youth. Other clubs in his time as players included Ajax Amsterdam and AS Rome. He also played 75 times for the Romanian national team.
The previous inter-coach Inzaghi had signed a contract in Saudi Arabia after the 0: 5 debacle in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. According to media reports, the 49-year-old should receive up to 25 million euros in an annual salary from Al-Hilal. As Inter, the team takes part in the upcoming club World Cup in the USA.
