Emmen is a business park richer. At least, according to a traffic sign along the ring road. Where Normaal Waanderveld is indicated, now says: Waarderveld. A new site? Or just a mistake?
On the site itself, the board mainly causes hilarity. “I think there is an R instead of a N,” says a gentleman who uses his break to watch. “And yes, that’s really wrong.”
The traffic sign has not been there for that long. A spokesperson for the province of Drenthe says that the board was placed at the end of August. “The old, peeled, signposting board was then replaced by a new one. Unfortunately, a spelling mistake in the text was overlooked.”
Not everyone had already seen the blunder. “No, I just drive past it every day,” confesses a passer -by. “You know where to go, so you don’t even really look at those signs anymore.”
“You know what needs to be,” says another. “Your brain will fill that in automatically. That’s why you just read Waanderveld, even if there is Waarderveld.”
Ultimately, most entrepreneurs and employees are mostly laconic about it. “Yes, actually a stupid mistake,” says someone with a smile. “Feh!” The province promises to restore the error as quickly as possible.
