Traffic controller Willem Netel is as proud as a peacock. There are about four hundred volunteers for the Beemster Festive week, he says. Quite a few for a relatively small community. “We all walk a step faster. Everyone does what he can do.”
As coordinator of the traffic controllers, he will not experience much of the festivities themselves. “We are doing everything in the right direction. During the break we walk over the site.” He calls organizing the event a ‘monster job’. “But we’ll all do it together.”
The program
The first weekend is the Beemster Fair. On Sunday a lot happens: tractor compact competitions, ring stitches and much more. There is even a consultation hour for stuffed animals (we don’t come up with this).
The popular stone throwing is Tuesday. You can no longer register: preferably 1,200 people participate and hundreds of people fell outside the boat. Next Sunday is the end of the Feestweek with the traditional autocross. The full program can be found via this link.
