In the skiathlon only the leader Klaebo beats him and now he returns second in the Tour overall
At the sixth attempt, Federico Pellegrino finds the paw and climbs onto the podium of the Tour de ski in Val di Fiemme. The 34-year-old from Valle d’Aosta is second in the skiathlon (10 km classic technique and 10 km free technique) of the stage event as part of the cross-country skiing World Cup which will end tomorrow with the climb of Cermis. Only the phenomenon Johannes Klaebo – increasingly the absolute leader of the general classification – beat the Italian, always in the heart of the action and capable in the end of catching the Norwegian’s wake at the top of the Zorzi climb and then holding on to the final straight at the return of the opponents. For the Norwegian it is the fourth victory on the six stages in 49’29″0 with Pellegrino at 2″4 and followed by the other two Norwegians Jan Thomas Jenssen (at 3″9) and Havard Moseby (at 4″6) and by the Austrian Mika Vermeulen (at 5″1).

For Pellegrino it is the second podium of the season, after the third place in the sprint skating in Lillehammer, the 46th overall in his career at an individual level in the World Cup, the first in Val di Fiemme: it had been exactly two years since Chicco was among the best three in one test distancefrom third place in the pursuit of Oberstdorf, again in the Tour de Ski 2023. And if this was supposed to be a dress rehearsal in view of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Games hosted by the slopes of Val di Fiemme, it can be said that Pellegrino has been able to take the right measures. He thus redeemed himself for fourth place in the classic Sprint on Friday. Second place allows Federico Pellegrino to jump to sixth place in the general classification with a delay of 2’56 from Klaebo, but the games for the podium remain open, with Erik Valnes second at 2’18, followed by Vermeulen (2’29 ), Moseby (2’29) and the French Lapalus (2’44). Elia Barp is 12th in the rankings, 13″1 behind Klaebo, followed by Martino Carollo. The twenty-one year old from Piedmont is 15th at 14″7, with Simone Daprà and Paolo Ventura in 25th and 27th place, while Giovanni Ticcò 32nd, Lorenzo Romano 38th and Martin Coradazzi 40th remain outside the points. On Sunday the Tour de Ski ends with the final mass start in free technique which from the Cross-Country Center in Lago di Tesero at 2.15pm will go up towards Doss dei Laresi, on Alpe Cermis.
