Merlier crossed the finish line alone. A few seconds later, defending champion Jordi Warlop from Diksmuide followed. Kortrijk native Bert Van Lerberghe completed the blue podium. One lap from the end, the three riders were still in the lead together. Tim Merlier has previously won two Belgian titles on the road, but has never won the Belgian Beach Racing Championships. In winter he likes to participate in cyclo-cross races, so he can also enjoy the beach.
Among the women, former winner of the Tour of Flanders Grace Verbeke was the best. The 39-year-old from West Flemish defeated several active road borders.
