‘Tijs and Sven continue alone!’

The star stable of Op1 trembles after the inserted broadcast about the cabinet fall. Critics and prominent people argue that only one duo remains: Tijs van den Brink and Sven Kockelmann.

The talk show Op1 had an inserted broadcast last night about the fall of the Rutte IV cabinet. It was presented by the occasional duo Tijs van den Brink (EO) and Sven Kockelmann (WNL), who also made an inserted broadcast about the Wagner uprising in Russia last month.

Only Tijs and Sven

Critics and celebrities agree: throw the entire stable of Op1 presenters on the street and keep only Tijs and Sven in the house. Is a mass layoff imminent at the talk show?

Ron Fresen, who spent many years in politics anchor of the NOS Journaal tweeted: “I was sometimes critical of Op1, but this one was very strong. What a wonderfully insightful reconstruction with some key players of the government negotiations on migration. 👏🏻👏🏻””

Former NOS boss Hans Laroes: “At the same time: if only 2 or 3 of the broadcasts are good, then you should take a look at the other 97, 98.”

Op1 2.0

Sjuul Paradijs, former boss of De Telegraaf, is also enthusiastic. “Op1 proved (again) on Saturday evening with the three-way discussion about the crisis that there is room for an Op1 2.0. On Friday evening I would then program a light DWDD as a ‘masterclass’ with Matthijs van Nieuwkerk indeed.”

Ton F. van Dijk, who has been at the helm of NPO 1 for many years, says: “Everyone who has seen Op1 now knows that with Tijs and Sven it is possible to make a high-quality journalistic talk show at the public broadcaster that offers a real alternative is for entertainment at RTL and SBS. Hopefully they choose this now. I say: Van den Brink & Kockelmann every evening.”

Purely political

TV producer Marc Dik also likes that, but: “Then it must become a talk show that is purely about political and social issues. Not about music, sports, showbiz etc, because then it won’t work.”

Rob Goossens, expert from RTL Boulevard, sees no problem with that. “Wouldn’t that only be good? Now it is often too boring and predictable in terms of entertainment and often too light and predictable in terms of politics. Yesterday was exciting and informative. As long as Op1 tries to be everything, it’s nothing. Last night was a hopeful idea of what it could be.”

Difficult phase

How does Tijs see it himself? He says in The Telegraph: “We are in a difficult phase. It was really exciting when Bnn-Vara stepped out. But there is a need for both the three broadcasters and the NPO to continue.”

“If they had wanted to get rid of us, they could have done so in recent weeks. The NPO has clearly not opted for that. I am really happy with that and that gives hope for a good restart.”
