Three pedestrians died after being hit by a car in France: “Driver had fallen asleep” | Abroad

A driver hit four pedestrians this morning near Steenbeke, in the north of France. Three of them have died, the sub-prefect of Dunkirk confirmed.

The fourth victim was taken to Lille University Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver lost control of his vehicle when he wanted to leave the village. The four were walking on the sidewalk at the time. Their ages fluctuate around 70 years old.

The driver was taken into custody. According to his initial statements, he fell asleep at the wheel.
