Three goals against: FC Volendam keeps a clean sheet at FC Utrecht

FC Volendam has one point left from the away match against FC Utrecht. At least three times The New Orange conceded a goal, but all goals conceded were later disallowed. In the Galgenwaard, both teams therefore got stuck on a 0-0 draw.

Gaetano Oristanio immediately returned to the base at Volendam. The Italian had to watch four games after a suspension for kicking and spitting towards the referee. Xavier Mbuyamba was also allowed to start again at FC Volendam, which was led once by Matthias Kohler. The assistant trainer was ultimately responsible because trainer Wim Jonk recently had surgery on his knee and has difficulty walking.

In a sunny Galgenwaard, both clubs kept each other in balance in the opening phase. The battle was mainly fought in midfield, but goalkeeper Filip Stankovic had to be attentive twice to the bets of Anastasios Douvikas, the joint top scorer of the Premier League.

Stankovic worth gold

After half an hour Stankovic prevented Volendam from falling behind. Douvikas was served perfectly by former Ajax player Sean Klaiber, but the Serbian closing post turned the ball with his head. Immediately, Stankovic was able to breathe a sigh of relief. The effort of Utrecht midfielder Bart Ramselaar ended up on the post via a leg from Volendam and Douvikas shot against Stankovic in the after-throw. From an offensive point of view, the visitors had little to say, because opportunities were not played.

In the second half Nick Viergever thought to give the home team the lead. However, the former defender of AZ and Ajax was offside, so it still remained the same. Volendam bit off a bit more and Oristanio shot wide through a beautiful attack. Fifteen minutes after the break, Utrecht seemed to take the lead through Bart Ramselaar. He tapped in after half a save from Stankovic, but the VAR ruled that the ball had gone over the sideline before.

Leading role for VAR

In the final phase, both teams went looking for victory. Utrecht claimed the most and was close with a long shot from Brouwers. In the 83rd minute, the defense gave way under the pressure, as Douvikas scored from close range. But again there was a leading role for the VAR, as Bas Dost was offside and obstructed Stankovic’s view. As a result, a goal by FC Utrecht was disallowed for the third time. Mike van der Hoorn was very close in stoppage time with a bet from a corner kick, but substitute Robert Mühren cleared the ball off the line.

After the draw, FC Volendam has 27 points from 27 matches. This puts it thirteenth in the Premier League. Next Saturday, Volendam will play against SC Heerenveen on Saturday evening. The ball rolls from 9 p.m. in the Abe Lenstra Stadium.
