Spokeswoman Hellen Smeets confirms to Het Nieuwsblad that it was employees of the nuclear power plant’s security service who spotted the drones.

The observations have no consequences for the activities of the power plant, Smeets emphasizes. “The services involved are continuing to monitor this,” said the Engie spokeswoman.

The Crisis Center confirms Engie’s report. No one at the local Scheldewaas police wants to comment further.

Belgium has been a target of drones for days. Earlier on Sunday evening, traffic above Liège airport was halted for about an hour after drones were spotted there. In recent days, there have been reports of drones flying over Liège airport almost every day.

Air traffic was also halted for half an hour on Saturday evening. This happened above Brussels Airport on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Drones have also been regularly reported over various military domains in recent days and weeks.
