Anderlecht claimed possession of the ball in the first half, but this did not result in many opportunities. The first opportunity was for the home team: Coosemans whipped a cross from De Neve from his short corner. A little later, Kortrijk again put his nose to the window, but Ambrose finished too weakly after a clever combination. An offensively underpowered Anderlecht almost took the lead at the end of the first half with a place ball from Maamar against the post.
