We actually had a really nice slogan for the 2014 World Cup back then. An internal sentence like that, because of course Brazil also logistically and many World Cup venues now logistically do not represent what we are used to in Germany, Europe, stadiums, infrastructure and other travel routes. And that’s why the claim has always been that the person who can best cope with the conditions will become world champion.
We are all athletes. We stayed in youth hostels and won or didn’t win indoor tournaments. So it doesn’t work now. As an association, you obviously want to create perfect conditions so that the team can be close to each other outside of the pitch and still be able to keep their distance from each other. That you’re just a little bit flexible, depending on how the mood is going, the individual relationships, how things are developing. Because when you’re together for more than six weeks, not every day is peace, joy and pancakes. But of course you also have emotions with you. That’s why it’s good to think about it beforehand. But that really has an impact on the result. So I’m here. In fact, I stick with the old school idea that football already takes place on the pitch. So that’s always the most important thing for me.
Yes, I’ll say at first glance that if you read the opponents’ names like that, it’s obviously a must to progress. When you look behind the scenes a bit and really deal with your opponents. Sure, Curacao is still a blind spot on the football map for me, but of course there can always be surprises.
