This operator’s internet is the fastest!

A recent report ranked Finnish operators based on mobile network speed, latency and overall performance.

Mobile connections of Finnish operators are the 16th fastest in the world. Katariina Salmi / Sarita Piipponen

According to Ookla, which runs the popular Speedtest speed test service, the fastest mobile connections in Finland were with DNA in the last quarter of the year.

The data published by Ookla shows the median speed of each operator’s mobile network in measurements made in the Speedtest service. The information is based on speed tests carried out by the operators’ customers themselves.

In the global speed comparison of mobile connections, Finland is in 16th place (101.94 Mbit/s). According to Speedtest measurements, the world’s fastest mobile connections can be found in the United Arab Emirates (303.21 Mbit/s).

Speed and delay

The median Speedtest of DNA’s mobile customers was 113.57 megabits per second in October–December. The difference to the second place was noticeable, as Telia’s median was 98.42 megabits per second. Elisa followed with a median of 89.55 megabits.

DNA also took the win in terms of 5G speeds with a median speed of 247.54 megabits. Telia ranked second (236.76 Mbit/s) and Elisa third (210.70 Mbit/s).

Ookla also ranked the operators according to delay. In this comparison, Telia took first place with a median delay of 31 milliseconds. Elisa and DNA were equal with a delay of 34 milliseconds.

Overall performance

In addition to speed and delay, Ookla’s report sheds light on the overall performance of the network, i.e. how much of the measured download speeds met Ookla’s “minimum requirement” of a download speed of at least 5 megabits and a transmission speed of at least 1 megabit.

95.4 percent of DNA’s customers’ Speedtest measurements reached Ookla’s minimum requirement. For Telia’s customers, the reading was 93.9 percent and for Elisa’s customers, 89.7 percent.
