Santa Claus has left, the oliebollen are gone and the fireworks have gone out. In other words: the new year has begun! What can we expect from the weather in January in Zoetermeer? Berend van Straaten, meteorologist at weatheronline.nllooks ahead.

Make sure the scarves, gloves and earmuffs are within reach. “The first half of January is colder than normal,” says Berend. “During the day the temperature is often just above zero and at night it can be slightly freezing. With fog or clouds, a local ice day cannot even be ruled out.”

Brrr… cold!

“Moist air from the North Sea occasionally causes (winter) showers, with a local chance of snow,” says the weatherman. “In combination with wind and low temperatures, it can be quite bleak.” A small bright spot: Weeronline does not expect large amounts of precipitation.

Rain, rain, go away

The weather forecast for the second half of January is still uncertain, but one thing is certain according to Berend: a mild continuation is not possible. Showers regularly pass over the country, usually in the form of rain because it often remains above zero degrees during the day. “If a shower comes along at night that is also heavy, it could easily result in a winter surprise.”

Skating from the fat

Can the skates finally come out of the grease in January? Berend tells us: “It is still too early to make firm statements about this, but the signals are in any case quite positive for skating enthusiasts.” Bring on the winter fun!
