André Breitenreiter is taking over Stefan Leitl’s position at Hannover 96: While some fans are cheering, others are very critical of the decision.
In 2017 he achieved promotion to the Bundesliga with Hannover 96. André Breitenreiter should now do that again. The 51-year-old will be the new coach of the second division team. But how is the new head coach received by the fans?
A look at social networks shows: Opinions about Breitenreiter vary. You can read a lot there, from storms of enthusiasm to great disappointment. For example, in a post posted by Hannover 96 on X about the coaching news, someone describes the election as a “real improvement” and congratulates the club: “Well done, 96!”
Someone else thinks that Breitenreiter has already done the club a lot of good in the past: “I wouldn’t have fired him in the first place in 2019. Great decision, I’m very happy.” Another user expresses his enthusiasm like this: “Awesome! The best thing you could do, at the right time.” On Instagram, the new trainer is described as “amazing” and “simply great”.
Another fan says that Breitenreiter’s promotion was sealed. This is also the opinion of the majority of a non-representative survey by t-online. Just over one in three of the 351 participants said that Breitenreiter would lead Hannover 96 back into the Bundesliga. However, 28 percent assume that he will not succeed in this.
Some fans on X and Instagram are also skeptical about this. “It takes new game ideas, a new concept and, above all, a hell of a lot of success for this return campaign to work,” says someone there. And wishes the club good luck.
Another Another puts it even more drastically: “The man failed everywhere: Huddersfield, Hoffenheim and Schalke. He was only successful in Zurich. He only managed to get promoted with us thanks to the good preparatory work of Daniel Stendel.” Another commented: “What a joke… sorry my friends from Hanover, but it’s going to be a complete failure.”
