This is how you can disable advertising on Samsung TVs

In case of doubt, anyone who streams their content does not want to be sprinkled with advertising. But more and more smart TVs are confronting their customers with sponsor banners on the start page and in the current TV program. Read at TECHBOOK how to turn off this advertising on the Samsung TV.

Smart TV users have a variety of z. B. private free TV stations available and thus an enormous selection of content. The devices have a so-called additional computer function and are internet-enabled. This goes hand in hand with numerous possibilities that are missing from classic television sets. But the fact that smart TVs such as the Samsung TV always show advertising in the current program can spoil the viewing experience a little.

That’s why smart TVs run ads

Digital TV advertising is becoming more and more attractive for companies. Here you reach a custom-fit clientele, who are usually well-funded, and therefore have to calculate less wastage than, for example, with classic advertising on nationwide TV. The advertising is tailored to you personally, such as your location, your streaming behavior and your general preferences as determined by cookies. The manufacturers make money from it – logically they are not interested in you deactivating this advertising. On the contrary. With additional functions such as the Red Button or HbbTV, they provide you with additional information on advertised products and services in a matter of seconds and make it easy for you to complete purchases.

From the user’s point of view, advertising on smart TVs like the Samsung TV is rather annoying. TECHBOOK therefore explains how you can switch them off.

Disable advertising on Samsung TV

Select the “Settings” menu using the home button on your remote control. This opens a window via which you can reach the sub-item “Terms and Conditions & Data Protection”. The item “I agree to the display information services on this TV” is preset here. You can disable it by unchecking it. The same game is recommended with the default setting “I agree to advertising based on my interests” – just uncheck this box as well.

In the same menu item you can reset your PSID. This will delete your advertising ID on the Samsung TV.

Also turn off the “HbbTV” function

By now you are probably familiar with the “HbbTV” function of your television. It is a kind of modern teletext that can do much more than its anachronistic predecessor. The disadvantage mentioned above: In addition to information about the content being played, HbbTV sometimes displays advertising. You can unsubscribe from this service. To manage the “HbbTV Settings”, call up the so-called “Expert Settings” in the “Broadcast” menu area of your Samsung TV. Remove the preselected tick here as well.

Disable Samsung TV advertising via router

An alternative way to disable advertising on the Samsung TV is via the router. As TECHBOOK explained in an earlier post, you can filter websites via the Fritzbox, for example, and thus protect your children from unsuitable content when they use the in-house Internet.

In the same way, you can block the Samsung ad server and thus prevent the inflow of ads. You can do this by using the web addresses http://ads.samsungads.com and http://config.samsungads.com add them to your list of blocked sites (the so-called blacklist). To do this, please log into your router via an Internet browser. To activate the settings, a new access profile must be created and set as the default. For the new profile, just select the settings “Filter websites” and “Block websites” – done.
