This is how the Chancellor sees the Bundesliga

Despite all the discussions, Chancellor Olaf Scholz sees the German Bundesliga as a “bonfire” for the nation.

“I’m pleased that the new season already had three different league leaders after three match days,” said the SPD politician at the gala celebrating the league’s 60th birthday in Berlin’s Tempodrom. “Maybe it’s not true that the Bundesliga is already at the tipping point,” as is often claimed due to FC Bayern’s dominance.

From “the capital of our republic, I wholeheartedly grant the title to everyone who deserves it,” said Scholz and also addressed the handling of finances. “Economic overachievers should be carefully considered,” said the Chancellor.

DFL Supervisory Board Chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke thanked Scholz for the visit. “It’s very appreciative of you that you not only stopped by, but also brought some time with you,” said Watzke. 60 years of the Bundesliga mean “an extreme success story,” said the 64-year-old, who is also DFB vice-president and chairman of the board of Borussia Dortmund.
