They’re a little hidden, but extremely practical – the color filters on WhatsApp are particularly helpful when things have to be done quickly.
Almost everyone knows that the photo apps on smartphones have image editing functions. With the WhatsApp update 2.17.30 for iOS (Apple) – and this is a little less well known – color filters were also included in the photo functions of the messenger for the first time. The feature was later released for Android users.
Step 1: Select image
Using the WhatsApp color filters is very simple: First, you have to select an image from the smartphone’s photo gallery using the “Send Photo” chat function or take a new image with the WhatsApp camera. Where you get the image from is irrelevant – the filters can always be applied.
Step 2: Swipe up
Once you have decided on an image and selected it, you can swipe your finger up over the image and the various color filters that WhatsApp provides will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3: Select filter
The following filters are available to both Android and iOS users: “Pop”, “B&W” (black and white), “Cool”, “Chrome” and “Film”.
The different filters can be tapped to test which one you like best – once you’ve decided, all you have to do is tap on the large image again. The filter is now applied.
The competing messenger service Telegram does not offer its users a filter function of this type: Instead, there are other editing options. For example, exposure and contrast can be adjusted individually. However, the quick filter selection on WhatsApp takes less time and is much less complicated.
