An Airbus operated by Swiss airline had to make an emergency landing in Austria due to engine problems and smoke in the cabin and cockpit.

As the Lufthansa subsidiary announced, it was an Airbus A220-300 aircraft that was traveling from Bucharest to Zurich with 74 passengers and five crew members on board.

Two crew members were still in hospital on Tuesday afternoon. One of the two, who was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Graz, was in the intensive care unit and his condition was still unclear, said Swiss. The remaining crew members received medical care, and twelve passengers were also treated for medical problems. Swiss is in close contact with the authorities and is working to determine the cause of the incident. The plane was removed from the runway.

Airbus said it was in close contact with Swiss International Air Lines and the transport authorities to provide support. “We have no further details at this time, but we continue to monitor the situation and will provide further information in due course,” a spokeswoman for the European aircraft maker said.
