The houses on Kustlaan will be demolished first. In the autumn, several houses in Kapitein Fryattstraat and Rouaanstraat will also be demolished. The houses are dismantled and asbestos is removed. Anouk Pattyn, Environmental Manager of the new Zeebrugge lock: “The homes had all been purchased. The people have been moving for a while. This causes vacancy and, in the long term, dilapidation and a risk of squatting. That is why we have chosen to demolish the homes now. The site will be sown with a flower meadow as a temporary use. And there will be a sustainable barrier to shield the homes from the coastal avenue.”
