Bundesligst RB Leipzig currently has to not only search for a new head coach. As the Saxons announced on Friday afternoon, another key post is now vacant.
Former Bundesliga coach Manuel Baum ended his work as a leader at RB Leipzig at the end of the season. According to club information, both sides agreed on the premature separation on Friday.
Anyone who takes over the position of the 45-year-old in the future has not yet been clarified. RB Leipzig, however, wants to “” promptly “inform about the successor.
As Marcel Schäfer, Managing Director of Sport at RB Leipzig, emphasized in the official message, the separation went back to Manuel Baum. “Of course, we respect his decision for private reasons,” said the ex-professional: “We thank Manuel for his commitment and the work done, he has launched many things in our academy in the past two years.”
Is Baum moving back to FC Augsburg?
Manuel Baum came to RB Leipzig in June 2023. There he was supposed to boost the youth work of the Saxons with new concepts. At RB Leipzig, young talents from their own ranks had a hard time gaining a foothold in the professionals.
In the past two years, however, no young player had been able to establish themselves sustainably with the Bundesliga heavyweight. The 17-year-old Viggo Gebel and Faik Sakar were able to collect the first minute of competitive minutes in the past season.
How it goes on for Baum is not yet clear. However, “Bild” immediately reports on Friday afternoon that the former coach of FC Augsburg, FC Schalke 04 and the DFB young teams could soon have a new job. He could hold a post in the youngsters at the FCA for the new season.
