The very last chance for Wendy van Dijk? ‘Humor show in pipeline’

Will Wendy van Dijk get one last chance to justify her multi-million dollar contract? It seems so. She is working on a new humorous program. “She can profile herself.”

Wow, how quickly Wendy van Dijk’s career went downhill after her exit from The Voice of Holland and her departure from RTL 4. When her husband Erland Galjaard – who turned out not to be very popular among the RTL stars – left as program director, Wendy began to miss her privileges. In no time she went after him.

Four shooting days

Afterwards to SBS 6, where she signed a mega contract for many years. But now Erland has also left there and Wendy is rarely on the air anymore. Very little. We only see her contracting dengue fever in Thailand and lying on a yoga mat in Ibiza. And it is never about her work anymore, only about her marital crisis.

In other words: Wendy’s career is in the doldrums and in about half a year her contract with SBS 6 will expire. Of course, she can be given something after that, but if you purely look at what she does and how she scores, then a extension is really not justified. “She has FOUR shooting days in all of 2023!”, Tina Nijkamp recently exclaimed.

Magnifying glass

So few shooting days that Wendy has even ended up in Tina’s top ten of TV stars who are under contract, but hardly get out of bed. In other words: presenters who become rich overnight because they do virtually nothing for all that money, but also run the risk that their contract will not be extended.

Herman den Blijker, a good friend of Wendy, is number one on that list – he is also on his way to the Media Park landfill. In any case: Mrs Van Dijk is under a magnifying glass. According to Tina, ‘Wendy’s role seems a bit played out at Talpa’ and that is why Evert Santegoeds recently tipped her to do a candid show.

Humor show

Now it indeed seems that something new is coming before Wendy’s contract expires. Talpa had a presentation for advertisers on Monday and all plans for the new year were shared there. “One of those present there was Wendy van Dijk,” writes Boulevard editor Joost Maiburg Insta. “I wonder what else she will do.”

Show news may now exclusively provide the answer. “Wendy van Dijk is secretly working on a new project, Guido?” says presenter Dyantha Brooks. Colleague Guido den Aantrekker then: “Yes, at least that’s what we thought.”

Secret project

What kind of secret project then? Guido: “We at Shownieuws are of course very well known because we find out everything and that is why we are often not told something, even here at Talpa, because they think: yes, then Shownieuws will dive straight into it! But still, through some kind of internal message, we found out.”

Well, Shownieuws was allowed to tell this from the Talpa top and Guido thinks the viewers don’t realize that. But what did they find out through that ‘internal message’? “That Wendy has said that she is working on a humorous program. I have to tell you: I am very happy with that, because I think she is very strong in those types of programs.”

Ushi and Dushi

Should we think about a new Ushi? “No I can not. First of all, because I don’t think playing an Asian woman passes muster anymore. I don’t think it’s right, but I think the good community… That you have to explain so much these days. I don’t think they do that anymore.”

It seems to be a bit in the candid corner. “I think this is a way for her to profile herself within SBS again.”

‘Bet on it!’

Dyantha: “And rightly so. It’s what she’s very good at, so it would be nice if she developed more in the field of humor, right?”

Guido: “If I were Talpa, I would indeed bet on that.”
