The tickles! Zoetermeer is partly taken over by bugs

In the Balijbos, but also in the Weidebuurt in Seghwaert you will find yourself on the film set of the video clip thriller. Trees are packed with a thick web so that these spots get a spooky appearance. What’s going on there?

All bugs

The gray webs on tree trunks, plants and sometimes even on objects such as benches come from the spinsel moth. This is a moth that deposits eggs in various plants and trees. In April their caterpillars appear that leave the plants bald and a silky spinning. These gray -white webs provide a spooky whole. In June and July, the caterpillars emerged into a moth.

No oak processionary caterpillar

Some people think that the oak processionary caterpillar is the maker of the webben. This is another type of caterpillar that with its stinging hairs ensures allergic reactions, skin rashes and irritation to the airways. The caterpillars of the spinselmot are bare and have no irritating hair. If you come into contact with the webs, you can only walk around on your head with a cotton candy.
